Itinerary

9:00am – Pick Up and Driver to Phnom Banan

Battambang is Cambodia’s second-largest city and the capital of Battambang Province, which was founded in the 11th century. The name Battambang or Batdambang, literally means “loss of stick” referring to a legend of the Preah Bat Dambang Kranhoung (Kranhoung Stick King). On this Battambang Temple Tour, you will see the two most popular temples in Battambang.

The tour will start first by visiting Phnom Bannon Hill and climb the 337 steps to reach the Bannon temple. Banan Temple is originally 11th century-built, though it saw a Buddhist makeover during the 12th century and reign of Jayarvarman VII. The temple is constructed on top of a hill overlooking the Sangkar river and there’s a 358-step climb to the top, where five towers precariously remain.

12:00pm – Lunch

We’ll stop at a local restaurant for lunch.

1:00pm – Ek Phnom

In the afternoon city tour by visiting Ek Phnom, an impressive but extremely dilapidated temple situated next to a large pond and is behind a contemporary 28m high Buddha statue. Built during the 11th century, supposedly in 1029 under the reign of King Sorayak Varman II (1002-1050), today it has been mostly reduced to ruins and visitors have to climb over fallen masonry and huge blocks of stone in order to traverse the grounds and then move to Ancient House which location a long river. The house was built almost a century ago and surrounded by orchard gardens, they have wide verandahs and exude the ambience of another era.
